Academic Writing Instructor
Camp Location: Georgetown University
Camp Dates: July 16 - July 22, 2017
Writing Instructors will teach rotating classes of motivated high school students the process of brainstorming, writing, and revising an excellent argumentative essay or a research paper. Instructors will deliver lectures on the writing process and will help each student complete an essay on a topic chosen by the student. The ideal instructor will have significant experience teaching writing and will be excited to help students improve their writing skills in the classroom and in breakout sessions. Instructors will also be responsible for tracking student work and handing in any deliverables to the camp director and EU home office.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, instructors should be available and willing to assist the camp director with active supervision, recreational activities, and some administrative tasks. Instructors should be mature, reliable, and able to work well with fellow staffers. Instructors are also expected to act as mentors, and will help lead field trips and guide students on excursions. With the support of the entire staff, instructors are responsible for the health and safety of students, in addition to fulfilling instructional objectives.
This is a residential position — room, board, and parking on campus is provided for the duration of the program. We will also consider instructors who wish to commute daily but preference is given for those candidates who are willing to live on campus and assist with dorm supervision. Instructors may be hired for one session or for multiple sessions of this program. Please indicate your availability on your application.
