Summer Focus Resident Advisor / Academic Tutor
Camp Location: UC Berkeley
Camp Dates: June 17 - August 12, 2017
Summer Focus at UC Berkeley is a comprehensive 6-week or 8-week pre-college summer program offered for high school students in a rare public-private partnership between Education Unlimited® and UC Berkeley Summer Sessions. Summer Focus pre-college camp for high school students at UC Berkeley is designed to provide a learning environment for motivated high school students who want to experience college life. Students attend actual UC Berkeley Summer Sessions classes, receive support from our Education Unlimited program staff, tutoring as necessary, go on excursions in the San Francisco Bay Area, and have fun learning with other high school students from the United States and other countries.
The Resident Advisor/Academic Tutor is responsible for creating a safe, supportive, educational, and fun pre-college environment for high school students who are getting their first taste of college life. RAs live on campus alongside the students and make themselves available to supervise as well as tutor them. RAs are also responsible for planning, executing and supervising recreational activities. Group trips to the movies, coffee shops, sporting events, music performances, dinner, and shopping are common.
Most RAs have previous experience as Residential Advisors and academic tutors. Candidates with math and science expertise are a plus. Experience working with teenagers in a supervisory or coaching capacity can also be helpful. The program requires RAs with strong leadership, planning capabilities and loads of energy!
RAs should be mature, reliable, and able to work well with fellow staffers. With the support of the entire staff, RAs are responsible for the health and safety of students, in addition to fulfilling instructional objectives. This is a residential position — room, board, and parking on campus is provided for the duration of the program.
Education Unlimited® provides academic summer camps & pre-college summer programs for students entering grades 4-12. Our summer programs include public speaking camps, college admissions prep programs, science camps, summer acting camp, writing camps, computer camp, leadership camp, video production camp, and college tours.
