Camp Brainy Bunch - Instructor Aide - 2017

Hour/Week: 25 - 40
Commitment: 2-6 weeks
Education Level: Current College Student, College Graduate, or Experience teaching elementary students
Compensation: $11 - $16 / hour (based on experience)

This is a temporary summer opportunity from mid June - early August. Even if you are only available for a few weeks in that window, we would still love to hear about your interest and consider your application. This role supports the instruction of campers ranging from 6 to 11 years old. 

Who we are looking for:

  • Recent college graduates, current college students, and/or individuals currently working with youth in an education role
  • Experienced working with elementary students
  • Preferred experience: camp or after school programs; familiarity with one or more of our featured subjects; classroom experience.

Instructor Aide Responsibilities


  • Attend mandatory paid staff training – Training will be provided in a blended format. Online training will be completed prior to group in-person training. In-person training will be held June 3-4, with make-up dates available to late hires July 1-2. 

  • Study and practice assigned curriculum so that you can support Lead Instructors in their delivery and in small group work with students. 

Camp; Let the Fun of Summer Begin:

Instructor aides are responsible for supporting the teaching at one or more camp locations and work between 2 and 6 weeks depending on the number of sites.

Work assigned hours between 7:45AM and 5:45PM (typically 6-8 hours per day)

Responsible for supporting the successful delivery of camp curriculum including adaptation of curriculum to enhance the experience and enjoyment of students, as well as to meet individual needs

Support and lead camp games and activities outside of instruction

Supervise all students in your care with constant attention to safety (physical and emotional)

Support camp operations: morning care, check-in and checkout, clean up, etc.

Maintain daily communication with parents/guardians at check-in and check-out

Treat all campers, parents, and co-workers with respect, empathy, and kindness

Keep Camp Director updated and informed of daily success and needs

Maintain high standards of professionalism and integrity

  • College graduate or current college student with experience in one of our subject areas (Public Speaking, Creative Writing, Theater, Engineering, Leadership)
  • Ability to speak confidently and compassionately with parents and youth
  • Direct experience working with 1-6th grade students
  • Flexible and willing to have fun and support camp wherever needed
  • Ability and skills necessary to teach assigned curriculum, classroom of camp experience preferred
  • Creative, trustworthy, high-energy, passionate about camp, inspiring, excellent communication skills, organized, and flexible
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification a plus (training available)
