Science/Logic Instructor 2017

Science and Logic Instructor

Camp Location: Georgetown

Camp Dates: July 16 - 29, 2017

Science & Logic Instructors are versatile science instructors capable of teaching both middle school level science and high school level logic. Instructors split their time between the two programs. For the middle school program, Instructors are responsible for guiding students through Education Unlimited’s fun and interactive science curriculum that focuses on "Mysteries." Instructors teach classes daily, including labs and group work, and are responsible for engaging students with various science concepts. Instructors should feel comfortable working with a creative curriculum, and should be ready to take the lead with organizing supplies and materials. For the high school program, Instructors are responsible for guiding students through Education Unlimited's original logic curriculum, which includes logic, word, and math problems. Instructors should have an ease with the material, and should excel at making students feel comfortable problem-solving.

Instructors will also be responsible for tracking student work and handing in any deliverables to the camp director and EU home office. Instructors should be mature, reliable, and enthusiastic about working with middle school students. Instructors are generally full-time teachers or graduate students with teaching experience.

  • 2+ years’ experience teaching or tutoring.
  • Bachelor's degree required; preference given to those with an advanced degree in education or science.
  • A calm and professional demeanor.
  • The willingness and ability to work long hours.
  • Self-motivation and follow-through.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong people skills.
  • A passion for education.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, instructors should be available and willing to assist the camp director with active supervision, recreational activities, and some administrative tasks. Instructors are also expected to act as mentors, and will help lead field trips and guide students on excursions. With the support of the entire staff, instructors are responsible for the health and safety of students, in addition to fulfilling instructional objectives.

This is a residential position — room, board, and parking on campus is provided for the duration of the program. We will also consider instructors who wish to commute daily but preference is given for those candidates who are willing to live on campus and assist with dorm supervision.
