A+ Summer Middle School Science Instructor
Camp Location: UC Berkeley
Camp Dates: various sessions in June and July, 2018
The A+ Summer Middle School Science Instructor is responsible for guiding middle school students through Education Unlimited’s fun and interactive science curriculum that focuses on "Mysteries" or "The Future." Instructors teach classes daily, including labs and group work, and are responsible for engaging students with various science concepts. Instructors should feel comfortable working with a creative curriculum, and should be ready to take the lead with organizing supplies and materials. Instructors will also be responsible for tracking student work and handing in any deliverables to the camp director and EU home office. Instructors should be mature, reliable, and enthusiastic about working with middle school students. A+ Middle School instructors are generally full-time science teachers or graduate students with teaching experience.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, instructors should be available and willing to assist the camp director with active supervision, recreational activities, and some administrative tasks. Instructors are also expected to act as mentors, and will help lead field trips and guide students on excursions. With the support of the entire staff, instructors are responsible for the health and safety of students, in addition to fulfilling instructional objectives.
This is a residential position — room, board, and parking on campus is provided for the duration of the program. We will also consider instructors who wish to commute daily but preference is given for those candidates who are willing to live on campus and assist with dorm supervision. Instructors may be hired for one session or for multiple sessions of this program. Please indicate your availability on your application.
