Science Camp Counselors are responsible for providing camper supervision, supporting the instructors and director, and for generally helping to make the camp fun and successful for participants. Counselors are also responsible for planning (with the other counselors) and teaching informal daily science workshops on chemistry, forensic science, and the magic of science, as well as leading campers in science-based recreational activities.
Other duties will include providing nighttime supervision in the dorms, providing supervision at meal times, assisting in classes and labs, walking campers to/from activities, assisting at check-in on the first day of camp, supervising students during an off-campus excursion to a local science venue, and assisting the camp director with administrative tasks. Counselors should be mature, reliable, and able to work well with fellow staffers. With the support of the entire staff, counselors are responsible for the health and safety of students, in addition to fulfilling instructional objectives. Counselors are usually recent college graduates or are studying science at the undergraduate level, want to share their enthusiasm for science with young people, and have experience working with kids and/or teens.
This is a residential position — room, board, and parking on campus is provided for the duration of the program. Counselors may be hired for one session or for multiple sessions of this program. Please indicate your availability on your application.
